WEEK 5 POSTING - ROUTERS

Routers are devices that connect your devices, such as your phone, laptop, or smart TV, to the internet. You can think of a router as a “middleman” between your home or office network and the internet. Without a router, your devices wouldn’t be able to go online or communicate with other networks.

So, how does a router actually work?

Every device on a network has an IP address, like a home address for data. When you try to open a website, your router takes that request and sends it to the correct place on the internet. Once the information is found, the router brings it back to your device. This happens very quickly, which is why websites load in seconds.

Modern routers do more than just connect you to the internet. They also help keep your network safe by blocking unwanted access, and they allow multiple devices to connect at the same time—either through cables or Wi-Fi. Some routers can even prioritize certain activities, like streaming or gaming, to make them run more smoothly.

For example, imagine you are at home watching Netflix on your TV while someone else is playing an online game and another person is on a video call. The router manages all of these activities at the same time, making sure each device gets the internet connection it needs without slowing everything down too much.

In simple terms, routers are what make internet access possible and reliable in your home or workplace. They quietly manage all the data moving in and out, making sure everything gets where it needs to go safely and efficiently.
